Dear AEA Community,

At its September 9, 2025 meeting the AEA Board of Trustees approved several important revisions to our charter.  Since the charter is our foundational document and drives all of our programs and initiatives, please note the following:

High School Opening Date: The official opening date for Albert Einstein Academies Charter High School (AEACHS) has been adjusted to Fall 2028. The current building at 446 26th Street (next to AEACMS) will be demolished and a brand new building created for our students and staff.

Facility Lease and Relocation of Administrative Offices: The Board authorized a new lease for office space located at 425 25th Street (one block from AEACMS), which will serve as an administrative site. This ensures adequate space for central operations and supports the relocation of key staff as preparations begin for construction at the AEACHS building.

Charter Document Revision: The AEACS charter was updated to transition from an English/German dual language immersion program to a German language program. This change removes the 50/50 English-German model and enables students to acquire the language in meaningful academic contexts. The Foreign Language Pathway section of the charter was also removed.

These updates strengthen our ability to meet operational needs, support staff and families, and maintain a high-quality academic program for our students.

Greetings AEA Families,

Thank you so much for participating in our Back to School Night! It was wonderful to see so many families on campus, and we hope it gave you a chance to connect with teachers and learn more about classroom routines, upcoming events, and our curriculum. We truly value your partnership as we kick off a great year together.

Our teachers are continuing their hard work learning and implementing the Benchmark Curriculum, our new English Language Arts and English Language Development program. This curriculum provides a consistent, research-based approach to reading and writing instruction, with a strong focus on building critical thinking, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. Teachers are collaborating and training together to make sure students get the very best from this program.

We are also settling into our new German model, where students receive up to 45 minutes of German instruction on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The program builds cultural awareness and supports multilingualism for all learners, integrating authentic language experiences and an age-appropriate curriculum to foster communication, comprehension, and appreciation of the German language. Alongside this regular instruction, we’re exploring ways to differentiate so students can receive enrichment opportunities.

We are currently completing our beginning-of-year assessments. English Learners who are new to California public schools are taking the Initial ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California), which measures growth in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Students in grades 3–5 are working on the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessment, an adaptive test that helps us identify each child’s strengths and areas for growth in reading and math. In grades K–2, students are participating in Multitudes, a dyslexia screener that supports early identification of literacy needs. Together, these assessments give us valuable insights to guide instruction and ensure every student receives the support they need to thrive..

Looking ahead, we are excited to celebrate German Unification Day on October 1 (moved from October 3 due to scheduling conflicts) and Picture Day on October 3. In addition, families of 5th graders are invited to our Albert Einstein Academies Middle Charter School Preview Night on October 8th,  where students and families will have the chance to meet the middle school team, tour classrooms, learn about curriculum and extracurricular opportunities, explore student support services, and connect with other families as they prepare for the transition to middle school.

Thanks for your continued collaboration and engagement.

Dear AEA Families,

Thank you for joining us at Back-to-School Night! Your partnership and support over these first several weeks of school have helped set a strong and positive tone for the year. Also our fall athletics schedule is set to begin soon. The volleyball and football team(s) have had regular practice in preparation for the start of the season. Please check the following links and bookmark them for regular updates to athletic events.

CLUBS

ATHLETICS

As we move into the next stretch of the semester, we want to share a few important upcoming events:

  • Wellness Lotería Night – Wednesday, September 18
  • High School Night for 8th Grade Families – Wednesday, October 2
  • Preview Night for Incoming 5th Grade Families – Tuesday, Oct 8, 2025

Fall Conferences are scheduled for October 20–25. All days during this week will follow a minimum-day schedule, so please plan accordingly. We appreciate your flexibility as this time allows our staff to better support and address student needs.

We also encourage you to stay connected with your child’s grade-level team:

Pick up & Drop-Off Logistics

For student drop-off and pick-up, we kindly ask families to use the rear of the school whenever possible. While we understand the front entrance may feel more convenient, it quickly becomes congested. Please remember to slow down and avoid double parking, as this creates a backlog that can spill onto Market Street and cause traffic jams.

The San Diego Police Department is regularly in the area and may issue citations for double parking or obstructing the normal flow of traffic. Your cooperation helps keep our students safe and traffic moving smoothly.

Note: On and after October 1st, the parking lot behind the future location of the HS will be closed. Construction is set to begin this fall, and fencing will go up around the perimeter of the HS.

Student Expectations

At AEACMS, we believe in fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. When behavior concerns arise, our staff responds with a focus on reflection, restorative practices, and support to help students learn from their choices. We encourage all families to review our expectations outlined in the Student Handbook and continue to review expectations with your children.

Avant Language Assessment
Last year, students participated in the Avant Language Assessment. This test measures proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Strong performance can qualify students for high school world language credit, recognizing their existing skills and allowing them to advance more quickly in their language studies. We will have students continue this assessment in the spring. Students in German will also continue to be assessed on the DSD as we have for many years.

For more information about the assessment, visit Avant’s website.
