AEA Monthly Leadership
Message
November 24, 2025

Dr. David V. Sciarretta
AEA Superintendent
Dear AEA Community,
As we move further into the fall semester, I want to express my appreciation for the hard work and collaboration I see across our AEA community. The dedication of our students, families, and staff is evident in everything we do, and it strengthens our schools each day.
This month, I would like to begin by congratulating all the students who received recognition for their EL Reclassification and proficiency in English. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and we are proud of the hard work and perseverance these students have demonstrated.
While this is always a busy time of year for us, it’s also an incredibly exciting one. In addition, Friends of AEA (FoAEA) will be hosting their annual WinterMarkt on our middle school basketball courts, where students, staff, and parents will offer handmade goods, crafts, and treats. This festive celebration will also showcase performances from our talented students, helping to keep the spirit of the season alive.
As a reminder, Fall Break is next week, and we hope it offers everyone a well-deserved opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend meaningful time with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the exciting weeks ahead.
David Sciarretta, Ed. D.,
AEA Superintendent

Greetings AEA Families,
It’s hard to believe the year is already coming to a close! As we head into fall break, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful experiences we’ve shared this month and look ahead to what’s coming up.
This November has been filled with energy and excitement on our campus. We welcomed many prospective families onto our campus and had the pleasure of leading numerous school tours. It was inspiring to see so many families eager to learn more about AEA. We also celebrated a beautiful Lantern Festival at Balboa Park, thanks to the thoughtful organization and support of Friends of AEA. It was truly a highlight of the season.
As we look forward, we’re excited for Wintermarket at the Middle School—always a joyful and festive tradition. We will also be hosting our next Parent University session, How to Support Your Child with German at Home (IVA1 and IVA2), presented by Katrin Goldman, on December 4th. We hope many of you are able to join us for this valuable learning opportunity.
Thank you to all our parents, staff, and students for your continued commitment, collaboration, and positivity. I wish each of you a safe, restful, and enjoyable fall break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back soon!

Dr. Jose Diaz
Middle School Principal
Dear AEA Families,
As we move into the final weeks of the fall semester, I want to take a moment to recognize the outstanding efforts of several members of our team and express my sincere gratitude for their ongoing service to our AEACMS community.
First, I would like to congratulate Mr. Filizetti, our ELD teacher, and Ms. Cindy Alvarez for her exceptional work as our ELPAC Coordinator. Ms. Alvarez skillfully identified and celebrated the students across both campuses who achieved reclassification and proficiency in English—an important milestone in their academic journey.
I would also like to highlight the work of Mr. Cota, who once again organized a remarkable exchange experience with our partner school in Bad Salzuflen, Germany. Parents and students from both communities shared how meaningful and memorable the experience was for everyone involved.
Additionally, I want to acknowledge the creativity and dedication of Ms. Haness and Mr. Vozzolo in bringing our first annual Fall Festival to life. This was the first time we hosted a schoolwide event where every student had the opportunity to participate, and it resulted in a joyful, community-building celebration.
Furthermore, I would like to express my gratitude to Mrs. Laura Ferrer, our enrollment clerk who has hosted several tours this fall to prospective students and families. This provides a unique opportunity for many families to visit our campus and really get a feel for our AEACMS community.
A special thank you to our special education team, who consistently go above and beyond to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all of our students with special needs. From running the Kickboard rewards cart to offering safe spaces during lunch and throughout the school day, their dedication ensures that every student has the opportunity to feel supported and to thrive.
Our Counseling and Wellness teams also deserve recognition for their leadership in implementing the CYBHI grant, a new statewide initiative that will allow AEA to be reimbursed for the behavioral health supports our teams provide. Several staff members have already earned their Certified Wellness Coach credentials in alignment with this program, further strengthening the services available to our students.
Most importantly, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our staff and families for their continued collaboration and support. It is through our collective efforts that we continue to grow, strengthen our programs, and improve outcomes for all students.
As a reminder, Fall Break is next week, and once we return we will be in the final 3 weeks of the semester. Please contact our support@aeacs.org team in order to access final grades on powerschool which will be available after semester 1 ends.
Many of you may have noticed that construction has begun on the HS project. While our construction partners work to maintain normal operations at the MS campus, this will not be without disruption. During a few weeks in December the normal traffic partners may be disrupted due to underground shoring that will take place adjacent to the new HS campus. Please make plans accordingly. Drop-off at the rear of the MS campus is available and will not be disrupted by the ongoing construction. Look for more information in the spring about ongoing HS updates!
Our 6th-grade camp is coming in December! We highly encourage all 6th-grade families to participate. Please access the information here or reach out to Mr. Cota for more information Francisco Cota
The sports season is officially underway! Our volleyball and football teams have started strong, showcasing school spirit and determination. Please continue to cheer them on and remind students to check the Athletics website.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Albert Einstein Academies. Together, we are building a bright future for our students and community
We also encourage you to stay connected with your child’s grade-level team:

Student Expectations
At AEACMS, we believe in fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. When behavior concerns arise, our staff responds with a focus on reflection, restorative practices, and support to help students learn from their choices. We encourage all families to review our expectations outlined in the Student Handbook and continue to review expectations with your children.
When issues arise, we have several ways to communicate information, which are outlined below.
Front Desk: 619-780-0400
Powerschool Powerhub: Messages and direct communication with staff and teachers.
PowerSchool Schoology: Our Learning Management System
Behavior Support: Our behavior support system

Avant Language Assessment
Last year, students participated in the Avant Language Assessment. This test measures proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Strong performance can qualify students for high school world language credit, recognizing their existing skills and allowing them to advance more quickly in their language studies. We will have students continue this assessment in the spring. Students in German will also continue to be assessed on the DSD as we have for many years.
For more information about the assessment, visit Avant’s website.
Pick up & Drop-Off Logistics
Elementary School
AEA is committed to keeping our students safe and being a good neighborhood partner.
Our families must obey traffic rules or risk citations.
We need our families to follow the crucial protocols below:
- Refrain from blocking our crosswalks with your vehicle.
- Refrain from blocking our neighbors’ driveways.
- Do not move our neighbor’s trash cans.
- Do not double park to drop off or pick up your children.
- Legally park and walk your student in through the front gate on A Street.
Vehicle drop-off and pick-up are at our A Street Back Gate ONLY.
Middle School
For student drop-off and pick-up, we kindly ask families to use the rear of the school whenever possible. While we understand the front entrance may feel more convenient, it quickly becomes congested. Please remember to slow down and avoid double parking, as this creates a backlog that can spill onto Market Street and cause traffic jams.
The San Diego Police Department is regularly in the area and may issue citations for double parking or obstructing the normal flow of traffic. Your cooperation helps keep our students safe and traffic moving smoothly.
