Jorge Mora
Elementary School Principal
Dear Elementary Families,
Welcome back to a brand-new school year at the Elementary Campus! The halls are buzzing with energy and excitement as we welcome back our returning families and greet new faces. With campus enrollment already at apprx. 87% capacity and climbing, our classrooms are full of eager learners ready for a fantastic year ahead.
To help us stay connected, we are streamlining all school-to-home communication through ClassDojo this year. Be sure to check your account regularly for real-time updates, photos, and announcements from your child’s teacher.
This year, our school-wide academic focus is writing. Across all grade levels, students will be sharpening their communication skills, unleashing their creativity, and building confidence as authors. We are so thrilled for the promise of great things to come—thank you for partnering with us to make this year our best one yet!
Quick reminders:
- Our first Pastries with the Principal is Wed Aug 19th at 8:30 am
- Our Back to School Night is Thursday Sept 10th starting at 5 pm.
Warmly,
Jorge Mora, Principal

Matthew Vozzolo
Middle School Principal
Dear AEA Families,
What a fantastic first week of school! It’s been wonderful seeing our hallways full of energy again, and I want to thank you for helping make the start of this year so smooth. A special welcome to every family joining us for the first time, we’re so glad you’re here. Another shout out to our custodial, counseling, enrollment, and front office teams for getting our school and families ready for the new year.
The middle school is sitting at approximately 95% enrollment, which is a strong start to the year. Thank you to everyone who got registration paperwork in early, it truly helps us plan and staff appropriately from day one. Enrollment is open for us all year, please reach out to friends and family to see if they are interested in a fresh start at AEA.
We’re excited to welcome seven new teachers to the AEA family this year (Ms. Ferregut 6th grade science, Ms. Clawson 6th grade math, Ms. Ortega 6th grade math, Mr. McMahon 7th grade math, Ms. Bryce 7th grade math, Ms. Kennen 7th grade history, and Ms. Giacchero 8th grade English) . They’ve hit the ground running, and I know our students are already benefiting from the fresh energy and expertise they bring.
We’re also thrilled to introduce our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Nathan Blake. Mr. Blake is eager to get to know our families and become a familiar, supportive presence on campus, please don’t hesitate to say hello if you see him around.
Most direct communication from me will now come through MyPowerHub which is part of PowerSchool, please make sure your account is set up. Notifications will be sent to your email addresses. For behavior updates, both positive recognition and areas for growth, we use Kickboard to keep families and staff members in the loop in real time. If you haven’t logged in yet, this is a great week to check it out.
If you’d like to meet with a member of our administration team, please reach out to the front desk to schedule a time. We’re always happy to connect.
Best,
Matthew Vozzolo
AEACMS Principal

At AEACMS, we believe in fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. When behavior concerns arise, our staff responds with a focus on reflection, restorative practices, and support to help students learn from their choices. We encourage all families to review our expectations outlined in the Student Handbook and continue to review expectations with your children.
When issues arise, we have several ways to communicate information, which are outlined below.

Avant Language Assessment
Last year, students participated in the Avant Language Assessment. This test measures proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Strong performance can qualify students for high school world language credit, recognizing their existing skills and allowing them to advance more quickly in their language studies. We will have students continue this assessment in the spring. Students in German will also continue to be assessed on the DSD as we have for many years.
For more information about the assessment, visit Avant’s website.
Pick-up & Drop-off Logistics
Elementary School
AEA is committed to keeping our students safe and being a good neighborhood partner.
Our families must obey traffic rules or risk citations.
We need our families to follow the crucial protocols below:
- Refrain from blocking our crosswalks with your vehicle.
- Refrain from blocking our neighbors’ driveways.
- Do not move our neighbor’s trash cans.
- Do not double park to drop off or pick up your children.
- Legally park and walk your student in through the front gate on A Street.
Vehicle drop-off and pick-up are at our A Street Back Gate ONLY.
Middle School
For student drop-off and pick-up, we kindly ask families to use the rear of the school whenever possible. While we understand the front entrance may feel more convenient, it quickly becomes congested. Please remember to slow down and avoid double parking, as this creates a backlog that can spill onto Market Street and cause traffic jams.
The San Diego Police Department is regularly in the area and may issue citations for double parking or obstructing the normal flow of traffic. Your cooperation helps keep our students safe and traffic moving smoothly.
