Albert Einstein Academies and San Diego High Joint Letter Regarding German Language Course Offerings
Dear AEA and San Diego High Families:
This coming June marks the 20th anniversary of Albert Einstein Academies. Over the course of two decades AEA has maintained an unwavering commitment to both the International Baccalaureate program and the central roles that German language and culture play in our schools. Part of this commitment has been an innovative partnership with the San Diego Unified School District and San Diego High School of International Studies to facilitate IB and language continuity that includes enrollment preference at SDHS-IS for AEA graduates. This commitment has included years of collaboration between AEA and SDHSIS as well as a significant financial commitment from AEA and the German government to fund a high school German teacher at SDHS-IS. This has allowed a generation of AEA students to continue with IB and German at the high school level and beyond.
As we look to the future and the opening of the AEA high school beginning with ninth graders in Fall 2024, and given the fact that the numbers of students electing to study German at SDHS-IS has dropped to unsustainable levels, AEA and SDHS-IS are working collaboratively to transition and thoughtfully phase out German at SDHS-IS in a way that honors students currently studying German and positions future generations of students for German success at AEA high school.
San Diego High School will continue to offer IB German HL for the Classes of 2023 and 2024 in the 2022-2023 school year. San Diego High will not be offering a German course option for the Classes of 2025 and 2026. We are also pursuing opportunities for students to engage in concurrent enrollment to study German at San Diego City College.
San Diego High and AEA will be co- hosting an informational meeting on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 7:00 PM via Zoom. This will be an opportunity to discuss options for students and speak with the principals of San Diego High School and AEACMS.

Estimadas familias de AEA y San Diego High:
El próximo mes de junio se cumple el 20º aniversario de Albert Einstein Academies. En el transcurso de dos décadas, AEA ha mantenido un compromiso inquebrantable tanto con el programa de Bachillerato Internacional como con el papel central que la lengua y la cultura alemanas desempeñan en nuestras escuelas. Parte de este compromiso ha sido una asociación innovadora con el Distrito Escolar Unificado de San Diego y la Preparatoria de Estudios Internacionales de San Diego para facilitar la continuidad del IB y del idioma que incluye la preferencia de inscripción en SDHS-IS para los graduados de AEA. Este compromiso ha incluido años de colaboración entre AEA y SDHSIS, así como un importante compromiso financiero de AEA y el gobierno alemán para financiar un maestro de alemán de preparatoria en SDHS-IS. Esto ha permitido a una generación de estudiantes de AEA continuar con el IB y el alemán en el nivel de preparatoria y más allá.
Con miras al futuro y la inauguración de la escuela preparatoria de AEA que comenzará con los estudiantes de noveno grado en el otoño de 2024, y dado el hecho de que el número de estudiantes que optan por estudiar alemán en SDHS-IS ha disminuido a niveles insostenibles, AEA y SDHS-IS están trabajando en colaboración para la transición y la eliminación gradual del idioma alemán en SDHS-IS de una manera que cumpla con los estudiantes que actualmente estudian alemán y posiciona a las futuras generaciones de estudiantes para el éxito alemán en la preparatoria de AEA.
San Diego High School continuará ofreciendo alemán IB HL para las clases de 2023 y 2024 en el año escolar 2022-2023. San Diego High no ofrecerá clases de alemán para las clases de 2025 y 2026. También estamos buscando oportunidades para que los estudiantes participen en clases simultáneas en San Diego City College para estudiar alemán.
San Diego High y AEA llevarán a cabo una reunión informativa el jueves 10 de marzo de 2022 a las 7:00 PM vía Zoom. Esta será una oportunidad para hablar sobre las opciones para los estudiantes y hablar con los directores de San Diego High School y AEACMS.
