As CA cities move into what Governor Newsom deems phase two of the process of cautious reopening, there is still no clear indication as to when our schools will re-open in a physical sense.  At the upcoming AEA Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, May 12 (4:30 pm PST) we will share some examples of how AEA’s Distance Learning Plan has been working for students, parents and teachers.  The meeting will also include a presentation on CA’s severe budget crisis from our Finance Committee.  To access the agenda and live-stream the meeting, click here.

In addition to daily food and technology distribution efforts that have been underway for the past two months on the AEACMS campus, we just announced an exciting public/private partnership with local restaurant chain Luna Grill to provide 250 lunches a week to those serving us on the front line of this pandemic.  This includes military, law enforcement, medical workers, and anyone who has continued working as our society has closed down.  Food distribution will take place every Thursday starting May 14 at the AEACMS campus from 12:00 noon while supplies last.  Click here for more information.

The AEA Covid Relief Fund has received nearly $23,000 in donations to date.  Due to the efforts of AEACMS student Brayden, the fund benefited from a $5,000 donation from Baskin Robbins in Brayden’s name in honor of his tireless efforts to raise money and obtain food donations during this pandemic (Brayden also received a year’s supply of ice cream!).  In case you’re wondering if Brayden’s volunteerism is something recent, check out this profile from two years ago.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in our community!

Stay healthy and safe this weekend.
