Today we moved past the 19,000 mark in meals distributed to the community since mid-March.  Thanks once again to all the volunteers from our staff who have made this endeavor possible.  Though we could never had anticipated the pandemic and its deep impact within our community and beyond, AEA staff have responded swiftly and decisively in rising to the challenge.  In addition to daily free food distribution we will continue holding our weekend food/essentials efforts every two weeks until we have exhausted our resources from the AEA Covid-19 Relief Fund.  Stay tuned for more information in terms of dates and times for these events.

Tonight the AEA Board of Trustees held its April meeting.  As with all AEA meetings this one was streamed live online, recorded and stored on Youtube for 30 days.  Click here to watch the meeting.

The Board meeting focused on three main themes: 1) discussion of the AEA Distance Learning Plan (DLP); 2) service initiatives at AEA in support of our community and 3) budget planning in light of the pandemic.  On this last point, Board President Melton called for a workshop session of the Board dedicated entirely to finance and budget planning.  The date/time/agenda for this session will be released as soon as we have more details.  Larry Tamayo with ExED predicated that we may likely be in a planning scenario with negative COLAs (Cost Of Living Allowances) from the State, and perhaps even deferrals (delays) in some areas of funding in the near future.  While there are far more questions than answers thus far, I continue to be thankful for the conservative budgeting practices of our Board of Trustees over the years which might serve as somewhat of a buffer when facing challenging financial scenarios for the foreseeable future.

Stay safe and give thanks for family, nourishment and shelter in these trying times.
