At the start of the second week back from Spring Break, our schools are in full swing with the new AEA Distance Learning Plan. At tomorrow’s Board of Trustees meeting we will be discussing the plan as well as some data on student engagement as we continue to shift the teaching and learning paradigm. This past weekend’s AEA food distribution event, sponsored by generous donors to the AEA Covid19 Relief Fund, was a success. We have already placed additional orders for food and other essential items, and will be announcing the date for the next event (likely within two weeks). There will also be a report on the fund and relief efforts at tomorrow’s Board meeting.

While we still do not have a date for reopening our schools in a traditional sense, there is widespread discussion in California about summer school and other options to support students. Assemblymember Dr. Shirley Weber has been one of the public leaders of this discussion. See the following article: https://www.voiceofsandiego.org/topics/education/weber-floats-summer-school-options/. As with so much related to this pandemic, there are far more questions that answers. For example, it is unclear how much of the decisions that districts make regarding summer school/Saturday school would apply to charter schools, and even if additional funds would be available to support these efforts. Rest assured that these will be topics for our leadership team and Board of Trustees to track on a regular basis. I will continue to update the community on this blog as well.

Finally, as mentioned previously here and elsewhere, nature keeps moving along, oblivious to the pandemic:

School gardens continue to yield…..
Working out at home is hard enough, then add competition….

Stay safe, stay healthy.
