During this pandemic we must take life’s simple pleasures any way we can.  Today on the AEA food distribution line, when I complained to an AEA staff volunteer that despite the brilliant San Diego weather I’m unable to enjoy a hike on nearby trails or a visit to the beach, she smiled and said, “just standing out here in the sunshine, even with this mask on, is beautiful.”  I can’t argue with that.

At the upcoming AEA virtual Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, April 21 there will be a presentation of updates on several relevant topics including the AEA Distance Learning Plan, the Covid-19 Relief Fund, technology distribution to families, and recommended modifications to policies that support our staff in their remote/distance duties.  Click here to access more information on the Board of Trustees.  The April 21 meeting agenda will be available at least 72 hours prior to the meeting start time (4:30 pm) and posted physically outside both AEA campuses.  To watch the live stream of the meeting click here.

In an ongoing ironic twist, the AEACMS marquee has been installed and should be going live by the end of this week.  While there are no families or staff present to see it, we are planning an inspirational message for the community during these challenging times.  I can’t wait for the day when the screen will read “Campus Is Open.”  Stay tuned…

The newly-installed AEACMS marquee will go live soon!

Finally, we continue to monitor the biggest question of all, namely when we are slated to begin the process of re-opening our lives, our economy and our schools.  Yesterday CA Governor Newsom discussed a broad plan at his daily press briefing, but the plan contained few details.  Newsom’s description of the “dimmer versus the light switch” to describe how our lives will likely ease back into normalcy was a useful image for me.  We need to remember that a dimmer switch moves in both directions.

Stay safe and healthy.
