The AEA Board of Trustees made a number of commitments to the AEA community at their March, 2018 strategic planning session.  One of my roles as Superintendent is to take Board commitments and strategic direction and work with AEA staff to translate these into programs that benefit our community and most importantly our students.  As we move into the new school year, below is an overview of Board commitments and the concrete ways in which these will impact students, staff and community:

  • Messaging of staff definition of rigor on both campuses and online
  • Incorporation of rigor definition into staff performance reviews, classroom walk-throughs and review of all programs
  • Increased academic supports for underperforming students as well as those at grade level and above
  • Discussion of academic rigor at all staff meetings and professional development sessions
  • Administrative direction related to appropriate end-of-semester and end-of-year celebration activities that align with the AEA definition of rigor
  • Administrative direction relate to the appropriate and rigorous use of technology in classroom instruction that never replaces the teacher as facilitator and guide with a computer (including but not limited to the use of films, online portals, etc)
