An important duty of a Governing Board after ensuring the fiscal health and legal compliance of our schools is supervising the position of AEA Executive Director. Charged with overseeing all areas of the organization, our Executive Director serves as AEA’s top executive officer while also serving as the face of AEA in the community as well as in all exterior contacts.

In an effort to continually improve the organization and its functioning, after much deliberation, we have decided to modify Dr. Sciarretta’s title to AEA Superintendent. We believe that by doing so we put in place a title that more accurately reflects the duties and responsibilities of a top executive position within the education profession. After all, at approximately 1450 students across two campuses, AEA is larger than about 20% of the school districts in our state. The job of leading AEA is no less complex than that of leading a traditional school district.

Since being appointed Executive Director in 2013, Dr. Sciarretta has distinguished himself as a tireless steward of the AEA mission and vision and, most importantly, as a strong advocate for student success. We appreciate Dr. Sciarretta’s twelve years at AEA and look forward to working with him as AEA continues to successfully grow as an educational institution.

Sincerely,

William Melton, Board President
